Alternatives Guide

CivicBridge Sourcing guide to alternative formats and quote scopes

This guide helps buyers compare building formats and quotation boundaries. CivicBridge Sourcing is an independent service. It is not a manufacturer or authorized dealer. It is not smartspace and is not affiliated with smartspace. Original-brand supply is outside this service.

Send Project Requirements
  1. Use and occupancy
  2. Module dimensions or clear span
  3. Wind, snow and seismic criteria
  4. Project jurisdiction
  5. Quantity and unit basis
  6. Destination and quote boundary

Three tables for one decision

ChoiceWhat to writeWhat can go wrong
Volumetric modular constructionClosed size, weight, and road limitsThe unit fits the program and misses the bridge or gate
Panelized constructionPanel count, site crew, and weather windowA low package price ignores days of open structure
Foldable or expandableFolded transport size and opened floor sizeOnly one of the two sizes is priced
Light-gauge or rigid frameCold-formed steel or hot-rolled members, clear span, eave heightMember suitability is assumed without project calculations
InputBuyer actionDo not assume
Wind speed and exposureGive the figure or say it is unknownA generic map value is the project value
Ground snow loadRequest the site ground snow load; the engineer determines the roof design snow load from project conditionsA southern example fits a mountain site
Seismic design categoryName the category when the engineer has itThe factory will invent the category
Floor live loadSeparate office load from storage or crane loadOne number covers every room
LabelUsually insideOften outside
ShellPrimary frame and a basic envelopeFoundation, interiors, permits
DeliveredTransport to a named pointUnload crew and crane
InstalledSet and weather-in, if the crew is namedUtilities and local inspections
TurnkeyA wider coordination listAnything not written, including soils and fees

A repeatable standard layout is fair to compare when the site accepts published module dimensions. A custom bay spacing or foundation interface needs engineering time in the schedule. Neither choice is automatically the cheaper path, and this guide does not publish a percentage difference.

Documents to request, not files hosted here

Drawings and calculations
  • Plans, elevations, and member sizes for the quoted system
  • Design criteria sheet listing wind, snow, and seismic inputs
  • Foundation interface reactions, even if the foundation is by others
Materials and envelope
  • Steel grade, coating, purlin and girt spacing
  • Insulated metal panel or sheet assembly with thermal transmittance
  • Fire-resistance rating only if a tested assembly is identified
Commercial and logistics
  • Quantity, destination, and incoterm or delivery point
  • What is excluded from installation and permits
  • Warranty text tied to the quoted manufacturer, not to this website

There is no downloadable certificate pack on this site. Ask the supplier for the sheets, then compare them with the brief. AISC 360 or AWS D1.1 may be relevant to a steel system; ISO 9001 may describe a plant system. Relevance is not the same as a current certificate for your order.

Questions to close before you accept an alternative

Format

Is a volumetric box required, or will panels meet the program?

Choose from access, finish level, and how much work can happen off site. Write the reason so a later substitution is visible.

Are folded and opened sizes both known?

If only one size is known, mark the other as open. Do not let a supplier price the smaller state and deliver the larger one.

Evidence

Which document belongs to this system?

Match the drawing number, plant, and jurisdiction. A general standard named on a homepage does not travel with the shipment by itself.

What remains the buyer decision?

Code path, acceptance of a deviation, and the contract. The sourcing desk can list the open items. It cannot close them for you.

See the formats available as inquiry options or send the open choices.

Compare formats with the gaps still visible

Tell us which rows are decided and which rows are still open. Factories can quote the decided rows and flag the rest.

Include specification, quantity, destination, and delivery timing. A quotation is not required before you send the brief.
